Pet Orthopedic Manipulation
Veterinary orthopedic manipulation is another cutting-edge technique we are proud to offer here at Sequist Animal Hospital.
Orthopedic Manipulation
Veterinary orthopedic manipulation (VOM) is a chiropractic technique using an “activator” (pictured) to stimulate certain sites throughout your pet’s body to aid in joint health and the relief of joint pain. The activator is a micro-adjustable spinal hammer that imparts a small force very quickly to the spine to alleviate pain.

VOM closes “pain gates” located throughout the spinal column. The quick impact of the activator stimulates mechanoreceptors that inhibit pain and allows the joint to move freely. Restricted movement is the cause of joint pain, therefore establishing normal mobility to the joint removes the factors involved with inflammation, edema, and pain. The theory behind VOM is very similar to acupuncture, acupressure, and therapeutic massage.
Treating chronic pain with VOM requires multiple treatments(adjustments) over an extended period of time. It is also normal for your pet to sleep after their first adjustment.
If your pet suffers from chronic joint pain, please call us to set up an appointment to try VOM and see the results for yourself.
